Golf star issues health update after elevator | Golf News
Andrea Pavan has been discharged from the hospital just one week after plummeting down an elevator shaft.
The Italian golfer, who has claimed two victories on the DP World Tour, was scheduled to take part in the South African Open Championship in Stellenbosch last week.
“Today was a big day. I got discharged from the hospital to continue my rehab at an accommodation nearby kindly set up by the Rupert family,” Pavan shared on his social media.
“It truly feels like a miracle to be able to walk and start to do some basic activities, although at a very slow and careful pace. I would like to thank all the Mediclinic staff, all the surgeons, nurses and everyone who has made this incredible recovery a possibility.
“Thank you to DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour in explicit Mateo, Ben, Joel and all the people who helped me along this last week. The DP World Tour gamers and caddies who got here to go to me in ICU while taking part in the SA Open – it really felt like a big household!”.
“Thank you to all the buddies, household, sponsors and people who reached out with messages and prayers and stepped in to help in all sorts of different methods. I’m sorry I couldn’t get back to all of you yet, but my coronary heart is overwhelmed with love and pleasure.
“God has answered many prayers, it truly feels like His hand is on my recovery. The road is very long but this small step feels very good! I will need to stay in South Africa another 5 weeks and rehab both shoulder and back, and heal other bruises and secondary injuries and once back home continue the rehab journey.”
The 36-year-old stepped through the elevator doorways at his non-public rental property in South Africa, but the elevator car wasn’t there, inflicting him to plummet to the ground below. A former teammate of the Texas A&M graduate has initiated a fundraising marketing campaign due to issues about his medical bills and his {golfing} profession’s future.
“I would like to say a big thank you for all the kind words and wishes I have received over the last 48 hours. I had surgery on my shoulder and my back on Wednesday evening and I am currently recovering in hospital,” Pavan said in a release issued by the DP World Tour immediately following the incident.
“I now have a lot of rehab and hard work ahead of me, but the care I have received so far from the Mediclinic hospital staff has been incredible, as has the support from the DP World Tour, the Sunshine Tour and all their staff here in Stellenbosch.
“I’m also very grateful for all the help Johann Rupert and his spouse Gaynor have given me.”
