Hamas agrees to free hostages after Trumps threat | Political News

Hamas has reportedly agreed to a ceasefire deal laid out by President Donald Trump to release all of the hostages in Gaza.

The Islamic Resistance Movement launched a assertion, obtained by Al Jazeera, that was translated from Arabic.

“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss the details of this agreement,” Hamas said in the assertion.

The assertion comes hours after Trump gave Hamas a Sunday deadline to agree to the deal, threatening a army onslaught forward of the second anniversary of the Hamas-led assault in Israel.

“An Agreement must be reached with Hamas by Sunday Evening at SIX (6) P.M., Washington, D.C. time,” the president wrote on Friday. “Every Country has signed on! If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas. THERE WILL BE PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.”

Hamas agreed to hand over the administration of Gaza to an impartial physique of Palestinian leaders “based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support.”

“Other issues mentioned in President Trump’s proposal regarding the future of the Gaza Strip and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people are connected to a unified national position and relevant international laws and resolutions.”

Under the plan, Hamas will immediately release the remaining 48 hostages — about 20 of them are believed to be alive. The group would also give up energy and disarm.

DON’T MISS…

Meanwhile, Israel would stop its army offense and withdraw from a lot of the territory, while also releasing a whole bunch of Palestinian prisoners and permitting humanitarian support and eventual reconstruction.

Also, plans to relocate a majority of Gaza’s population to other international locations can be canceled. The territory of roughly two million Palestinians can be positioned under worldwide governance, overseen by Trump and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. However, the plan did not present an eventual reunification path with the Israeli-occupied West Bank in a potential Palestinian state.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump made it clear to Hamas that it needed to settle for the plan “or the consequences are going to be very grave.”

Hamas has an opportunity to accept this plan and to move forward in a peaceful and prosperous manner in the region,” Leavitt told reporters. “And if they don’t, the consequences, unfortunately, are going to be very tragic.”

Some parts of the plan had been unacceptable and need to be amended, a Hamas official told the Associated Press. Many Palestinians have longed for an end to the battle, but many view the deal as strongly favoring Israel.

Hamas said the deal isolates Gaza from the core Palestinian trigger, which the group could have taken into consideration when agreeing to the deal.

In the assertion, Hamas said it “appreciates the Arab, Islamic, and international efforts, as well as the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump, calling for an end to the war on the Gaza Strip, the exchange of prisoners, (and) the immediate entry of aid,” among other phrases.

However, senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk told Al Jazeera on Friday that the group wouldn’t disarm before the “Israeli occupation” ends.
