PGA Tour star sees rollercoaster season continue | Golf News
PGA Tour veteran Stephan Jaeger admitted that “some weird s—” occurred when one of his tee photographs only went 104 yards during Thursday’s sport.
Jaeger’s 2025 season has been a rollercoaster, marked by an epic meltdown at the Rocket Classic in June where he furiously slammed his membership a number of occasions. That same weekend, Brooks Koepka also misplaced his mood and destroyed a tee box at LIV Dallas.
The latest twist in his tumultuous marketing campaign occurred at the $6 million Sanderson Farms Championship on Thursday. Standing at four-under on the par-4 seventeenth gap, Jaeger took a mighty swing at his tee shot.
However, the underside of his driver hit the top of the ball, sending it straight into the ground and skidding along the grass before finally stopping just over 100 yards from the tee box.
Golf followers on social media could not resist making gentle of the mishap. One person quipped, “Not impressive, I do this multiple times a round,” while another said: “I accomplished this feat no less than 24 hours ago.” Another fan requested, “I hit 104 yard drives in most holes, where’s my coverage?”.
Despite the rocky start to the opening spherical at the Country Club of Jackson, Jaeger managed to hit three fairways and completed with a respectable rating of three-under 70.
Speaking to reporters following the chaotic spherical, Jaeger appeared surprised by what had transpired. “Wow, I don’t know where to start,” he started. “A lot of solid, some weird s—, some nice putts. You know, it was good – most of it.
“Man, 15, 16, 17 was … I do not know. I just woke up from it, I do not know what occurred. I’m altering a couple issues so feeling uncomfortable a little bit is an element of the deal.
“But 16 was a great par save, even that layup from over there through the trees. Had a pretty nice number on the wedge so could be fairly aggressive, but kind of bit me in the butt there on 17. Like I said, it was some super weird stuff out there but I’m pretty happy with my round.”
DON’T MISS:
After recording his first bogey of the day at the seventeenth gap, Jaeger managed to rescue his spherical with a flawless end at the 18th.
“I’ll tell you what went through my mind on 18, because I’d just hit three of the worst tee shots of my life and then I hit the fairway on 18,” he said. “I told my caddie, Andy, ‘That might’ve been the best swing I made in my life.’ Just because golf’s a messed up game.
“I did not really feel very snug over there on 18 and made a good swing, received on the green and had a good wanting birdie. So I do not know, man, I do not know.
“Like I said, I’m not 100 percent comfortable with what I’m doing yet. Irons, wedges, everything feels great, it’s just the driver needs a couple more reps in competition and tournament rounds. And that’s why I’m here, to kind of get that settled and be able to play hopefully the next 3-4 tournaments and get better.”
