Homeless Vet Gives Away His Last Dollar. Then a | Political News
Hebrews 13:2 says, “Do not be forgetful of hospitality, for through this, some have entertained angels unawares.” A homeless vet didn’t know that his spontaneous response to somebody in need would change the trajectory of his life. And we’re very grateful it did.
Deeds of kindness is the subject of this week’s Feel-Good Friday.
President Donald Trump signed one other slew of govt orders on Friday, one of which directed Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins to set up higher care for veterans, improve accountability for that care, and set up a National Center for Warrior Independence in West Los Angeles. The Warrior Independence Center will serve as a residence for homeless veterans across the nation with a purpose of housing up to 6,000 veterans by 2028.

In January 2024, the VA documented that 32,882 veterans have been homeless. Some of the explanations included lack of secure employment, lack of inexpensive housing, struggles with habit, and mental health challenges.
We do not know which state of affairs impacted Navy veteran Jeff Daley’s life, but he has been homeless for eight years. However, he was making strides in turning his life around. Daley had just begun a job at Sprouts Farmer’s Market in Irvine, CA, and he used a free health club membership to bathe every morning before he went to work. Daley was going about his work day when a “chance” encounter with a younger man asking for help to buy child food was the pivotal turning level:
“I was just hoping for something better to come along and take some of the weight off my shoulders, and it really did. Jimmy, I really want to thank you,” Jeff stated in tears.

Jeff was working at the Irvine grocery store when he acquired a request from a stranger – a greenback to buy child food.
“Yeah, I’ll give you a dollar, man. That’s all I can do for you,” Jeff responds.
Unbeknownst to Daley, the individual who requested for the greenback was social media influencer Jimmy Kellogg, aka “Jimmy Darts.” I hate the time period “random acts of kindness,” because kindness isn’t random. It’s a deliberate and decisive motion that isn’t only intentional, but impactful.
Darts’ Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube channel doc Darts going around the nation, selecting unsuspecting souls to be a half of his “Kindness Challenge.” So, nothing random about that, and at that second, Daley was the subject of Jimmy Darts’ intentionality.
As soon as Daley gave him the greenback, Darts returned it to him. Daley was all varieties of confused.
“Why? I just gave it to you,” Daley responded. Darts requested Daley why he gave him the greenback, and Daley shared his story of being on the road and attempting to work himself out of excessive poverty.

Darts not only gave Daley $500, but he crafted a plan to help him get off the streets:
Jimmy Darts, the person behind the voice asking for the greenback in the video, is a social media influencer with hundreds of thousands of followers who watch as he surprises strangers with kindness.
Jimmy stated somebody instructed him about Jeff’s state of affairs.
“I go around the country finding people that are in need, and I went in here and I said alright I’m gonna do a kindness test and if he, you know, passes the test, I’m gonna reward him with 500 bucks for being awesome,” Jimmy stated.
Darts set up a GoFundMe and shared Daley’s story of homelessness and his battle to rebuild his life to his hundreds of thousands of followers. Within 48 hours, Darts had raised virtually $100,000 on his behalf. Darts went to see Daley at the Sprouts location in Irvine again, and shared the excellent news with him.

Daley is effusive in his gratitude for the blessing that has been poured out on him. Without forethought, Daley gave all that he had; but acquired even more in return.
