Influential alt-rock band Jane’s Addiction announced Wednesday that they’ve formally break up, more than one 12 months after frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro had been concerned in an explosive on-stage battle during a Boston live performance.

In a assertion shared on Instagram, the band confirmed that the breakup comes after months of rigidity following the September 2024 incident, which abruptly ended their reunion tour. “After that show, without notice to Perry, we unilaterally determined it would be best to not continue the tour and made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health which we regret,” the Been Caught Stealing rockers wrote.

Farrell, 66, also addressed the break up in a assertion posted to his own Instagram web page on Wednesday, issuing a public apology for the onstage incident and confirming that the band was formally ending its run after 4 a long time. “I’d like to address what happened on stage last year,” Farrell started. “I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.

“Jane’s Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades,” he continued. “The band, the songs, the patrons and the impact that we’ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down.”

“My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest and positive,” Farrell explained. “In Boston, we fell short of that, and I’m truly sorry to everyone who was impacted. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you for your continued love and support.”

Jane’s Addiction’s implosion began on September 13, 2024, during a reunion tour stop at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion. During the show, Farrell and Navarro, 58, got into a physical altercation mid-performance.

Video from the concert showed Farrell shoving and striking Navarro as crew members rushed in to separate them, abruptly ending the show. The incident led the band to cancel the remainder of the tour.

Farrell later called his behavior “inexcusable,” while Navarro, Avery, and Perkins launched a joint assertion citing Farrell’s conduct as the rationale they may not continue touring.

In July 2025, the dispute escalated additional when Navarro, Avery, and Perkins filed a $10 million lawsuit against Farrell. The swimsuit alleged assault and battery, emotional misery, negligence, and breach of contract, claiming Farrell’s actions price them touring income and derailed future plans for new music.

Farrell responded with a countersuit hours later, accusing his bandmates of harassment, bullying, and contractual violations. He also disputed their model of the Boston incident and objected to public feedback made about his mental health.
