Boxer Imane Khelif has pledged to full all essential testing procedures to compete at the 2028 Olympics, having revealed that she has undergone hormone treatment. The Algerian athlete sparked widespread debate in Paris 18 months in the past when she secured gold amid ongoing controversy over her gender eligibility.

The IOC confirmed that Khelif had met all entry necessities for the video games. “I’m surrounded by docs, a professor follows me. For the qualifying event for the Paris Games, which was going down in Dakar, I lowered my testosterone degree to zero and I gained the gold medal.

“For the next Games, if I have to take a test, I will do it. I have no problem with that. I’ve already done this test.”

“I contacted World Boxing, I sent them my medical records, my hormone tests, everything. But I didn’t get any answer. I don’t hide, I don’t refuse tests.”

Khelif discovered herself at the centre of controversy during her triumph in Paris, and in 2024 she lodged a legal grievance concerning social media remarks, with JK Rowling and Elon Musk amongst those named. However, French law prevented either from dealing with fees over their feedback.

“I’m not a trans person I’m a girl,” Khelif has since reiterated. “I was raised as a girl, I grew up as a girl. The people of my village have always known me as a girl.”
