BBC Breakfast: Black Sabbath fan receives tickets to closing show

Heavy metallic pioneers Black Sabbath reunited for the first time in 20 years at their farewell show, Back to the Beginning, on July 5, but it was not without its drama.

While followers have been more involved about seeing 76-year-old Ozzy Osbourne and his former bandmates, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler carry out some of their largest hits, at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, a bit of controversy did sadly happen.

The show included performances from Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, among others, but a couple appearances angered some.

On prime of some followers’ critiques, there was drama before the live performance even occurred, with Ozzy’s spouse, Sharon Osbourne revealing that she had to can one band’s look after sure calls for.

Ultimately, none of this drama effected followers’ general satisfactoin with the closing show, and Black Sabbath bought a outstanding ship off. Still, right here is every controversy that occurred at the farewell show.

Sharon Osbourne disinvites one band over money dispute

Sharon revealed she disinvited a group from his closing Black Sabbath live performance after they tried to revenue from the occasion, which raised money for three charities, including therapy Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice.

“It’s not the time to make a profit,” she instructed Billboard forward of live performance. “After the show, I’ll let everybody know who it was. I think people will be shocked.”

She elaborated additional about the dispute with Metal Hammer, saying, “I had a huge, huge to-do with a manager over this celebration for Ozzy and Sabbath. And it was probably the worst way I’ve felt in years. And I don’t care what this person says about me, thinks about it, because he doesn’t know me. And he’s now going around making up bulls— lies because I threw his band off the bill.”

However, she dismissed the idea that the band at the center of the dispute was Iron Maiden, saying her husband “only has respect” for them.

In the days following the show, Reddit threads lit up with fan theories. The most common guesses amongst followers have been bands Motley Crue and Kiss.

Marilyn Manson’s video tribute

Marilyn Manson was not part of the line-up for Black Sabbath’s epic Back to the Beginning final concert, but he did make an appearance that was quickly slammed by fans.

The controversial singer beamed in with a video message paying homage to the group, which aired in between performances from acts including Alice in Chains, Tom Morello, Yungblud and Metallica.

A clip shared to social media of the message showed Manson, real name Brian Warner, speaking of how he later came to share a stage with Ozzy and Black Sabbath, having grown up as a fan.

“It is a great honour to be here via this video, and I’d like to say congratulations, and I love you very much Ozzy,” he said, describing the heavy metal legend as a friend.

His appearance comes two weeks after his first UK concert, part of his One Assassination Under God Tour, was cancelled following pressure from campaign groups and an MP.

Manson, who was sued by four women accusing him of rape, inappropriate assault and bodily harm, has always denied allegations of rape, inappropriate assault and physical abuse.

The lawsuit against him was dropped in January after a year-long investigation, as prosecutors in California found that the statute of limitations had been exceeded.

Fans who tuned into the livestream of the event expressed their outrage at his inclusion, as one person wrote on X, “F— Marilyn Manson, he’s a piece of s—,” as a second added, “Disgraceful that he is on this otherwise outstanding Black Sabbath show.”

“Marilyn Manson on the Black Sabbath stream f*** off,” one other fan mentioned.

Disturbed’s David Draiman disputes claims he was booed off stage

Disturbed was one of the bands who carried out at Black Sabbath’s closing show, but there was some drama surrounding frontman David Draiman.

He was greeted with loud boos from some viewers members when he walked onstage to sing Shot In The Dark and Sweet Leaf as half of one of the day’s all-star supergroups, per Louder Sound.

Fans claimed the end was ‘cold’

After Black Sabbath performed their songs War Pigs, N.I.B, Iron Man, and Paranoid, fans were left in awe of the epic farewell. However, others were left feeling a bit “cold” with how the evening ended.

After Ozzy completed singing Paranoid, the singer mentioned goodbye to the crowd. The livestream then confirmed confetti being shot into the crowd and fireworks exploding over the prime of Villa Park. That was it.

While some voiced their displeasure that they didn’t get to see the 4 take a closing bow collectively, others even accused Ward, Iommi and Butler of strolling offstage while leaving Ozzy—who carried out that evening seated in a gothic throne due to his points with Parkinson’s Disease—by himself.

However, what the livestream didn’t show was that Iommi and Butler went over to communicate with Ozzy after the closing tune. According to a video shared by Metal Hammer, Iommi warmly shook palms and spoke with Ozzy while Butler gave him a cake that includes Ozzy’s likeness on the entrance.

Butler then allowed Ozzy to “soak up the adulation from the crowd,” per Metal Hammer.

Butler himself confirmed this, taking to Facebook to say, “I keep hearing that people watching the stream thought that our set ended abruptly, with us just walking off. Sorry if it seemed that way. I went off to get this cake for Ozzy. Cheers to the fan who captured the proper ending.”
