Inside Katy Perry dancing backlash as she preps for Las | Music News
Katy Perry is dealing with renewed scrutiny as she prepares for her upcoming Las Vegas live performance on May 17.
The pop star, who once had a Vegas residency broadly labeled a disappointment, is now fielding backlash over her onstage dancing during the kickoff of her new Lifetimes tour in Mexico City.
Clips from the opening night time shortly went viral, largely for the choreography, described by many viewers as robotic and weird.
Dressed in a futuristic cone bra and thigh-high boots, the 40-year-old was seen performing a collection of stiff, mechanical actions to her hit “Part of Me,” which included mendacity on the ground and raising one leg in the air while singing.
“This is the worst choreography I have ever seen in my life,” one TikTok person commented. Another added: “Yeah the choreography is something else, but why does she have a handheld mic and a headset mic.”
Even on X (previously Twitter), one fan stated: “People are paying to see this?”
Another posted: “This clip is not impressive. This looks more like somebody who’s come out of retirement after 30 years and trying to pull the same moves off they did when they were young and popular.”
Another stated: “It’s giving school talent show,” which earned the response: “This looks like an SNL skit.”
Some also referenced her current 11-minute space flight with Blue Origin, sarcastically linking the expertise to her stage motion.
“Guess those 11 mins she spent in space could have been better spent on choreography,” one individual stated.
Another added: “Too much space travel. She’s not used to being back on the ground.”
Perry acknowledged the criticism during her show, inviting two followers on stage dressed in NASA fits and joking: “I want these gentlemen to come on stage because they are dressed like my most current timeline.”
She also reportedly requested the group: “Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?”
Even Dance Moms’ controversial head honcho Abby Lee Miller weighed in on the efficiency in her Leave It on the Dance Floor podcast.
“She’s not dancing,” Miller stated bluntly. “She’s not even twerking.”
“It doesn’t really jiggle.” Miller didn’t maintain back, saying: “I can do that in the wheelchair. C’mon Katy. God gave you two legs, let’s dance.”
