Inside LA’s quietest warehouse party — where…

On Saturday nights in downtown Los Angeles, one warehouse party is trading EDM for ambient music, and glow sticks for blankets.

At the “Remember Those Quiet Evenings” on July 11, friends arrived with pillows, settled onto the ground and spent the night time listening to Tibetan singing bowls, modular synthesizers and effected guitar.

Before the main efficiency, attendees ate, talked, journaled and ready to do one thing that can really feel more and more uncommon on a weekend night time in Los Angeles: stay still.

For some, that was exactly the attraction.

“It just sounds like a really good alternative to going and getting drunk tonight,” one attendee said. “So, just doing the reverse today.”

The gathering was organized by Adam Weiss, a longtime Los Angeles event promoter who beforehand threw underground warehouse events. But after 17 years of sobriety, he said the normal party surroundings no longer felt constant with the life he was building.

“The more I leaned into my sobriety, the more the warehouse parties didn’t actually feel aligned,” Adam said. “And so I started being like, ‘What else can I do? What are the events to make people connect?’”

His reply was to start organizing what he calls “wholesome events” centered on meditation, reflection and group. “Remember Those Quiet Evenings” combines those concepts with the environment of an underground music gathering.

Once friends had organized themselves across the warehouse ground, dialog pale and the live efficiency started. Adam performed singing bowls and chimes alongside musicians performing atmospheric synth and guitar, creating an expertise that attendees in contrast to a sound tub — but with a fuller live musical part.

One visitor said the mix of frequencies and devices made the event really feel different from other sound baths she had attended. Another described leaving “well-rested” and more in contact with himself.

For Adam, the aim was less complicated than any formal definition of the event.

“The whole idea of this is just an invite to slow down and pause,” he said, “and invite in stillness.”
