Legendary ITV newsreader Sandy Gall left his family a small fortune in his will following his death in June of this 12 months at the age of 97. His lengthy career as a correspondent and broadcaster took him all over the world to cover some of the biggest historical events of the 20th century. One of his first assignments with ITN was in Dallas, Texas, just hours after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Over the years, he lined vital world occasions, including the Vietnam War, the Soviet-Afghan War and America’s civil rights motion, where he interviewed Martin Luther King in 1965.

He was also one of the few journalists to stay in Vietnam after the victory of the North Vietnamese to cowl the autumn of Saigon in 1975.
