Jack Smiths Ghost Haunts DOJ As Burn‑Bag Document

Former Special Counsel Jack Smith proved to be fairly the canny character as he doggedly tried to get Donald Trump on prices of illegally retaining categorised paperwork and making an attempt to overturn the outcomes of the 2020 presidential election. Both instances died painful deaths: a choose ruled Smith’s appointment illegal in the paperwork case, and the election matter was dropped after Trump gained back the Oval Office.

But the ghost of Smith gained’t depart the Department of Justice, and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche revealed on the “Hang Out With Sean Hannity” podcast launched Tuesday that the division had discovered a room packed with paperwork that had been put in burn baggage — implying that somebody wished to get rid of them but in some way failed.

“It’s not the existence of a burn bag that I think is interesting or problematic depending on which side you’re on,” Blanche said.

“This one was in a place where I get the point that an honorable FBI agent might have left it there because it was not where it would normally be to be destroyed,” he added. “[We] kind of stumbled on it, but it looked almost intentional.”

Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino told Hannity a comparable story back in April, describing how that they had discovered “the mother lode” of paperwork. It’s unclear if Blanche is referring to the same tranche. Asked whether or not he thought they have been deliberately spared, Bongino said merely, “Yes.” He continued, saying that the paperwork confirmed the Smith’s Crossfire Hurricane probe was “bull****”:

And this is why I say to people that, watch out portray the whole bureau with an overly broad brush. There have been a ton of unhealthy actors, more than I anticipated, and you have been appropriate about that.

But there have been a lot of people in there, under excessive strain, who, you get where I’m going with this? Who have been most likely like, “This isn’t right?”

…They saved it on goal.

Although Smith isn’t at the moment under legal investigation, a number of oversight probes are underway, including reviews of his conduct as particular counsel. He made a mockery of justice in his quixotic quest to get Donald Trump by any means attainable, and one can only hope that this “mother lode” finally leads to some accountability. We have yet to actually see that.
