Jake Paul has set out rules for Fury rematch as he | Boxing News
Jake Paul has acknowledged he can be open to a rematch with Tommy Fury, but only if the struggle could possibly be prolonged to 12 rounds. Paul was defeated by British boxing star Anthony Joshua in Miami on Friday night time, with Joshua stopping the social media icon in the sixth spherical. This defeat, broadcast on Netflix, marked Paul’s second loss since turning skilled, with his first defeat being handed to him by Fury in Saudi Arabia back in February 2023.
Since then, there has been hypothesis about a potential rematch, with Paul stating: “Only if it’s 12 rounds”. Their initial bout was an eight-round cruiserweight struggle, and Fury has beforehand expressed his willingness to face Paul again. Speaking to ESPN, Fury said: “In a heartbeat, yeah. I mean at the end of the day I think me and him, we’re set in stone. He’s only got one defeat and that’s to me, so it’s inevitable that we are going to get back in the ring.”
Fury last fought in May, securing a factors victory over Kenan Hanjalic. This was the first time the 26-year-old had stepped into the ring in nearly two years, and his lack of current expertise is one of the explanations he has yet to agree to a rematch with Paul.
The former Love Island star admitted in the documentary collection “Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury” that he declined a rematch with Paul scheduled for June this 12 months, claiming he wants at least two or three warm-up bouts first.
Fury has also confronted accusations of avoiding a rematch, turning down a number of profitable proposals to return to the ring. Back in April, Paul’s promotional associate Nakisa Bidarian claimed Fury had rejected “multiple offers” for another bout with the American.
Bidarian said: “Tommy was offered an unbelievable deal to headline versus Jake on Netflix and they had a false sense of expectations. Jake’s not gonna ever offer him that kind of money again. Now if Tommy Fury showed up and said, ‘Jake, here is $20million to fight me and I’m gonna make $20million.’ Right, all the power to you.”
He continued: “But they’ve never made an offer once. And we’ve made multiple offers to try to make that rematch happen. And if you’re very confident that you’re gonna be Jake Paul, you should have jumped at the opportunity to fight him for $6million plus upside on Netflix. It’s just beyond ridiculous that they didn’t.”
Nevertheless, Fury seems eager on the confrontation. He lately delivered a stark warning to the ‘Problem Child,’ telling Boxing Social: “If I were to fight him, which I think will 100 per cent happen, then he has got to stop talking b****** like he is every single day on Twitter.
“He is offering silly numbers that aren’t sensible. He thinks because he has bought a few followers on Instagram and YouTube that he can call the photographs.
“But if you want to come into a sport where we fight, then none of that matters. You lost, I won. So let’s talk some realistic numbers.”
If a rematch with Fury cannot be organized, the YouTuber-turned-boxer is assumed to have compiled a listing of potential rivals. Canelo Alvarez, Conor McGregor, KSI, Kamaru Usman, his brother Logan Paul, Ben Askren, AnEsonGib, Nate Robinson, Tyron Woodley, and Nate Diaz are all reportedly on the listing.
Gervonta Davis may also be a goal after a bout against ‘Tank’ fell through, main Paul to shift his focus to Joshua. UFC mild heavyweight champion Alex Pereira is also on his radar, while Paul has also talked about Terrence Crawford, who lately announced his retirement from boxing.
