JD Vance appeared to have an awkward second during a live TV interview when Fox News host Sean Hannity reminded him that he had beforehand criticized Donald Trump.
The 41-year-old Vice President was showing on Hannity’s program to promote his new e-book, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. During the interview, the pair mentioned Vance’s personal journey, his religion and his relationship with the President.
Sean said,”I get into this argument with President Trump. I’m not sure if I’m going to heaven.” He added, “I said, you know, John, 316, God so loved the world, he sent his only begotten son. And it’s funny, because he has own spiritual side. He does.”
“When you assume of your background, and as I used to be studying the e-book, and it is so different than President Trump in many methods. However, your relationship is phenomenal. Yeah.”
“And you even attacked him in 2020.” The comment appeared to catch Vance off guard, with the Vice President quickly correcting Hannity.
JD Vance replied, “Well, in 2016.” Vance has spoken openly in the past about his previous criticism of Trump before eventually becoming one of his political allies.
Social media users quickly revisited Vance’s past comments about Trump in the comments section.
One person wrote, “Didn’t he examine Trump to Hitler?”
Another social media user wrote, “‘Your relationship with Trump is phenomenal.’ Sure it’s. That’s why Trump retains making jokes about whether or not the next @GOP candidate for President ought to be Vance or Rubio.”
Others suggested Trump may not have forgotten the comments Vance made years ago.
A third person added, “Do you assume trump forgot bout the issues JD Vance said about him in the past… NO!!! Remember trump will not be loyal to no one.”
In 2016, Vance made a sharp critique of Donald Trump, calling him a bad candidate and person. He had labeled Trump ‘reprehensible’ and a ‘moral disaster.”
