As he announced his new e-book, former President Joe Biden issued a major update on his cancer diagnosis.

“Since I left the presidency, I’ve had a lot of people ask me, ‘Joe, what have you been doing?'” the Democrat said in the two-minute-long video.

“I’ve been spending a lot of time with my household. I’m dealing with a cancer diagnosis, and I’ve been getting treatment, and it has been going rather well,” he continued, thanking everybody who provided prayers and help and well-wishes, which he said “meant the world to me and to [former first lady] Jill [Biden].”

Last September, Biden underwent surgical procedure to take away pores and skin cancer lesions, a spokesperson said, confirming the surgical procedure after Inside Edition revealed a video of the previous president leaving church in Delaware with a recent scar on his brow.

Kelly Scully said Biden had acquired Mohs surgical procedure, a process used to cut away pores and skin until no evidence of cancer stays.

In May 2025, Biden announced that he had been identified with an aggressive kind of prostate cancer that had unfold to his bones.

And a couple of years before that, while Biden was still in workplace, he had a lesion eliminated from his chest, which was a basal cell carcinoma — a common kind of pores and skin cancer.

“Cancer touches us all,” Biden wrote on social media at the time. “Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.”

The Biden household is no stranger to cancer — the previous president’s son, Beau, died of a mind tumor, and Jill has had two cancerous lesions eliminated.

Biden broadcasts new e-book about his presidency

The objective of the video in which Biden issued an update on his cancer was to announce his new e-book, “PROMISE ME, AMERICA,” which is set to be launched on Nov. 17.

“I’ve written a book about my time as president. It’s called ‘PROMISE ME, AMERICA.’ It’s coming out in November, and it’s available for preorder now,” Biden said.

“It’s about the challenges we face as a nation — about those decisions I made and why I made them: leading the country through COVID, rebuilding our economy and restoring our democracy after the attack on Jan. 6; ending our nation’s longest war in Afghanistan, strengthening NATO and supporting Ukraine,” he explained.

“It’s about why I chose to run for reelection, and why I chose to step aside. Most of all, it’s about my faith in the promise of America — the promise we made to those that have gone before us and to honor their sacrifice; the promises we’ve made to one another, and to treat everyone with dignity and respect; and the promises we made to future generations of Americans to remain the beacon to the world,” he added.

He added that his “faith in America and the American people” sparked the project. “I hope it strengthens your faith in what we can do as a nation and as a people,” he said.
