How Can Senate Republicans Make Best Use of the | Political News

We do not know yet what will occur in the 2026 midterms. We do know that the midterms campaigns can be bitterly contested up until the last day, only a little over a week away now. We also know that the outcomes of these elections might change the course of the nation for years to come.

Furthermore, we all know that the United States Senate has left a appreciable quantity of work mendacity on the desk. It’s worthwhile, then, to take a look at what might occur yet with the current Senate, which can be back to work for a lame duck session on November ninth, until the Christmas break. After that, a new Congress can be seated, and we don’t yet know what that Congress will seem like.

We do know what the current one seems like. And we do know what they need to do. Here are three issues the United States Senate has pending that they need to, at all value, get handed and on to President Trump‘s desk in this lame duck session.

First: The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This funds the Department of War and all its routine operations for fiscal 2027. It has handed the House of Representatives in July and is now awaiting motion in the Senate. This is, actually, a matter of national security; the Senate wants to pull out the stops and get this accomplished as soon as attainable. The NDAA, thoughts you, has been languishing in half due to components of the SAVE America Act being added to the invoice, and those components are key to enhancing election integrity; more on that in a second.

Second: The Stop Insider Trading Act. This has been introduced up in the Senate and has failed cloture, most likely because too many Senators as effectively as too many Representatives (I’m wanting at you, Nancy Pelosi) have been taking benefit of their positions to use the stock markets as an ATM. This is how, on a comparatively modest House or Senate wage, so many of these people grow amazingly wealthy. This is a significantly odious incentive that attracts the worst kind of people, and the Senate wants to do whatever is important to cut that twine.

Third: The SAVE America Act. Get this accomplished at all prices, either through the amendments to the NDAA or, ideally, the stand-alone invoice. This would, primarily, enact new necessities on voter registration (proof of citizenship) and voting (ID necessities). This is the single most important factor we are able to do to beef up the integrity of our elections.

From the efficiency we have seen so far, the lame duck session will not be in a position to get this through cloture under the current system. Yes, that’s still a drawback. There’s a resolution, and the Senate Republicans will face a major choice after next week, when the midterm outcomes are in and we all know what the new make-up of the Senate can be. If the Democrats take the chamber — fates forfend that occurring — then Senate Republicans, in that lame duck session, had better gird their loins and do the one factor that will allow passage of these three objects: get rid of the filibuster. A new Democrats will do this on Day One. Bet on it.

This previous conventional follow, of which I used to be a staunch supporter myself until only months in the past, has already been whittled away some in issues like judicial nominations. It’s time to put it to relaxation for good. We might argue that it is too great an benefit to hand the Democrats, but they may hand it to themselves in any case. If the Senate Republicans can swing that axe, to get these issues accomplished, then it is time.

We are at the political knife-fighting stage now. The best factor we voters can do, now and in every election to come, is to prove, to make sure that the Democrats do not gain the benefit of a House and Senate majority. But if they do — the lame-duck session is the Republicans’ last probability to get these issues accomplished. It’s time for them to battle soiled.

Vote! Vote! Vote!

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will decide the destiny of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must keep control of both chambers of Congress.
