In late June, former two-division UFC champion Jon Jones relinquished his heavyweight championship and introduced his retirement from combating. Two weeks later, Jones got here out of retirement after President Donald Trump introduced plans to host a UFC occasion on the White House grounds next July 4th. 

During final Saturday’s UFC 318 Post-Fight Press Conference, UFC CEO Dana White poured cold water on Jones’ hopes to compete on the historic struggle card. 

“I can’t risk putting him (Jones) in big positions, in a big spot and have something go wrong,” stated White. “Especially the White House card.”

On Sunday, after listening to White’s feedback, Jones took to social media with a response. Despite what White stated, Jones plans to proceed to practice and be prepared to step in the cage next July against whoever the struggle promotion desires. 

“I heard the comments made at last night’s press conference. While I was a little disappointed, I’m still in the UFC’s drug testing pool, staying sharp, and continuing to train like a professional. I’ll be ready for whatever comes next,” Jones wrote on X

“In a recent interview, I shared that the opportunity to fight at the White House gave me something deeper to fight for, a “why” that goes beyond paychecks or belts. Fighting for my country gives me a greater purpose! 

“The silver lining in all this is realizing the followers see my coronary heart. They see, I’m prepared and prepared to take on anybody, to signify my nation on a historic stage. For me, it’s never been just about the opponent. I’m chasing legacy, one thing timeless, one thing greater than the second. So for now, I’ll keep grinding, keep affected person, and keep trustworthy. I’m prepared to struggle on July 4th.”

Jones final fought in November, defeating former two-time heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic via TKO in the UFC 309 primary occasion. It was Jones’ first and only heavyweight title protection.
