Koepka open to Masters change after making PGA | Golf News

Brooks Koepka is competing for the trophy at the Players Championship in Florida, and revealed he would possibly make the journey up to Augusta before the most anticipated golf event of the season.

Koepka returned to the PGA Tour after departing LIV golf forward of the 2026 season and is making his fourth start of the season, following a top-10 end at his home event and the Cognizant Classic.

“I’ve not really done it in the past,” said Koepka, referring to touring to Augusta forward of time to scope out the course.

“I have no plans on it. But, I mean, I would be open to it. I was kind of just focusing on this week and then kind of thinking about it maybe later after this week. I’m busy. I’ve got Tampa next week. Houston, I helped design that golf course.”

“I mean you’ve only got one week off, so it’s really would be kind of fast track. But I don’t know, I think it plays so different sometimes when you go up there early versus when you’re there week of.”

The 2018 Player of the Year returned to the American circuit through the Returning Members Program and said he’d fallen back in love with the sport at the Farmers Insurance Open and his first PGA event since 2022. “I think the Players always kind of was the kickoff to a big tournament every month, right,” Koepka acknowledged.

“You’ve got this, when they moved it to March; April you get the Masters. Then so on. I mean there’s a big event every month.

“So this is form of proper where I really feel such as you needed to know where your sport was at. Every time when you come to the Players you get a good thought of, hey, you’ve got acquired a couple more weeks proper before Augusta; if you bought to make any adjustments, this is where it wants to occur.

“This is kind of, I don’t know, in my eyes, the kickoff of the real heat of the golf season. And it’s a lot of fun, it’s exciting, and just need to be on top of things.”

Koepka wrapped up the first spherical at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium course at T-38 and stays in rivalry for the $4.5 million first-place prize.
