Kristi Noem says right people need to be voting | Political News
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem pledged to make sure the “right people” had been casting votes for the “the right leaders” during a press convention in Arizona on Friday.
“Elections is another one of those critical infrastructure responsibilities that I have as well, and I would say that many people believe that it may be one of the most important things that we need,” she expressed. “To make sure [our] trust is dependable, and that when it will get to election day that we have been proactive to make sure that now we have the right people voting, electing the right leaders to lead this nation through the times that now we have – figuring out that people can trust it.”
Noem’s feedback about the “right people” voting sparked criticism online. Noem has yet to publicly make clear her remarks.
“This is Trump’s idea of democracy: leaders get to select their voters instead of the other way around,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer posted on X.
The House authorized the SAVE America Act on Wednesday, laws mandating Americans present proof of U.S. citizenship via picture ID when voting in federal elections. The invoice now heads to the Senate, where Republicans maintain a slim majority, reviews the Mirror US.
If the Senate also passes the invoice, it is going to land on President Donald Trump‘s desk, who is anticipated to signal it into law.
“There will be Voter I.D. for the Midterm Elections, whether approved by Congress or not!” Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday.
Critics argue that the SAVE America Act may probably intrude with the upcoming midterm elections in November, as reliable voters would possibly be disqualified due to technical points with their documentation.
Noem fired back at those opposing the invoice on Friday.
“Each of the arguments laid out to criticize this bill is baseless speculation from the radical left because they want illegal aliens to vote in our elections.”
The Wall Street Journal revealed an article on Thursday, citing sources within the DHS who had been extremely important of Noem, describing her as a politician who seeks to “burnish her personal stardom at every turn.”
Covering Noem’s press convention offered its own set of challenges.
According to the Arizona Mirror, attending Noem’s press briefing was no straightforward activity.
Journalists wishing to cowl the event RSVP’d to Noem’s press convention at an undisclosed location a day prior. On Thursday night, authorized journalists had been instructed to collect at the main Homeland Security workplace in Phoenix, from where they’d be transported to the key location half-hour away, the outlet reported.
“A slew of brand new 2026 all-wheel drive Dodge Durango GTs, some still with the dealer window sticker in the backseat, created a convoy that drove reporters to a Homeland Security Investigations field office in north Scottsdale,” the outlet detailed.
