Tensions had been working high in the GB News studio as Camilla Tominey clashed with a Labour minister in a fiery debate about the rising quantity of younger people going through unemployment. On Sunday morning (May 31), the 47-year-old returned to the airwaves to ship the latest news hitting the headlines on the breakfast show. It did not take long for issues to flip political as she mentioned the Labour authorities’s new pledge for 300,000 new work expertise and training placements for younger people over the next three years to help fight rising youth unemployment.

It comes after former Health Secretary Alan Milburn said Britain has misplaced 1.6million low and medium-skilled jobs, with hospitality jobs more than halved in 4 years. To get a more in-depth understanding of the new employment scheme, the broadcaster welcomed Labour minister Pat McFadden onto the show.

Temperatures soon rose when the mum-of-three grilled the Work and Pensions Secretary about the federal government’s financial coverage in element. She started: “What role have two Labour budgets played in youth unemployment, Mr McFadden? Because last year it stood at 14.2%, 12 months later it’s at 16.2%.

“Now, I can think about that you need to blame the Tory legacy right here, but this 2% rise has occurred on your watch, hasn’t it?” The politician simply replied: “It’s been going up for years”, to which she replied with: “Yes, and you’ve got made it worse.”

He went on: “We’re on a development right here since post-Covid of sharply rising youth unemployment. What we have to do is do more now to strive to get more alternatives for younger people.” She went on to ask the Labour minister about the contribution mass immigration has had on youth unemployment.

Ms Tominey explained: “I’ve just been discussing some research that the ThinkTank have introduced out at the same time that this very troubling Milburn report was produced, and the Centre for Social Justice [CSJ] says there are many causes for youth unemployment, but one of the elements that has influenced issues is immigration.

“The CSJ points to the fact that since 2020, 27 non-EU migrants have found a job for every one British young worker. So, there seems to be a problem with mass migration, seeing immigrants taking the jobs that British workers would have once had. Mr Milburn doesn’t seem to acknowledge this, Pat McFadden, will you?”

He replied: “Well, immigration is coming down in the latest figures, but it’s true that it was very high between 2020 and 2024/2025. The latest figures show an 82% drop since the height of those levels, and I think that is an opportunity for us to look anew at this question.

“Because, very often if I’m going back 10 or 20 years in this debate, we have had the query: ‘Why do not we do more to prepare our own staff?’ and with web migration falling now, I believe that’s grow to be a query that’s more pressing. The nation merely cannot afford to have a million younger people not in schooling and employment or training, so I believe that fall in web migration ought to spur us on to do more to create more training, more work expertise and more alternative for people right here in the UK.”

Tominey pushed: “So, you’re accepting what Mr Milburn would not. Alan Milburn said, ‘We cannot enter into a blame recreation, immigration hasn’t had a position in all this’. It must have had a position if the quantity of non-EU younger people in work has risen by 355%, but the quantity of British staff of the same age has elevated by just 0.3% since 2020. So you’ll settle for that mass immigration has had an influence on youth unemployment?”

He sheepishly replied: “Well, I believe there are a lot of elements right here, it isn’t just down to immigration and migration ranges,” to which she clarified: “I’m not saying just immigration ranges, Mr McFadden. Will you settle for that mass migration has had a position on youth unemployment. Yes or no?”

However, the politician continued to dodge the question, instead giving a summary of his thoughts on the report. It didn’t take long before viewers flocked to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their thoughts on the on-air clash. One user fumed: “The Left can, and will, never be sincere about their failed mass immigration from the third-world experiment. They cannot because they know what that would imply. So they’re going to merely lie about issues that everybody can blatantly see all around them.”

Another agreed: “The lack of ability to reply a simple yes-or-no query tells its own story. If mass immigration impacts housing calls for, wages, public companies and infrastructure, why would employment be the one space magically exempt from basic economics?”

Meanwhile, a third argued: “There are many elements right here. Immigration/ low cost labour yes, but then add Labour’s appalling tax regime & a welfare state that incentivises college leavers to immediately signal on the mental points – a welfare state Labour are doing NOTHING to reform. Parents also need to look in the mirror.”
