Latavius Murray retires at 35 after 10-year NFL…

After a long and fruitful NFL profession, working back Latavius Murray is retiring from soccer.

The 35-year-old, who final performed for the Bills in 2023, introduced the information Wednesday on Instagram

“They never saw a pro in me,” Murray captioned his post, which included a reel of his profession highlights. “But 11 years later, I showed what a pro really looks like.”

Murray performed 10 seasons in the NFL, including stints with the Raiders (2014-16), Vikings (2017-18), Saints (2019-20), Ravens (2021), Broncos (2022) and Bills.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound back rushed for 6,552 yards and 59 touchdowns in his profession, and notched at least 500 yards dashing in 9 of his 10 seasons. 

He loved his best season with the Raiders in 2015, incomes a Pro-Bowl nod with 1,066 dashing yards and six touchdowns. 

Murray, from Titusville, Fla., was a standout at UCF from 2008-12, dashing for 2,424 yards and 37 touchdowns over that span.

Those numbers made him a 2013 sixth-round draft alternative of the Raiders, with whom he shortly earned a position.

After his three-year stint in Oakland, he break up the workload with Dalvin Cook in Minnesota before becoming a member of the Saints’ backfield. 

He then went on to share carries with Devonta Freeman in Baltimore in 2021, with Melvin Gordon in Denver in 2022 and with James Cook in Buffalo in 2023.

Murray’s farewell video on Instagram options clips of former teammates talking about him from press conferences over the years, including Derek Carr describing the working back as “one of my best friends in this whole world,” and reward from Drew Brees. 

“That’s a strong guy, huge guy. People don’t want to tackle that man, I’m not gonna lie to you. I wouldn’t want to tackle him either,” Lamar Jackson mentioned later in the reel, with Russell Wilson including: “Murray is one of my favorite guys to play with. I really enjoy his presence and what he’s done, and who he is as a man.”

The video then closes out with a number of former teammates describing Murray as the “ultimate pro.”
