LBC host Nick Ferrari definitely didn’t maintain back any punches as he grilled Ed Miliband in regards to the rise in vitality payments. During Friday’s instalment of his morning radio show, the 66-year-old welcomed the Secretary State of Energy and Climate Change onto the show to debate the latest increase in fees.  

The broadcaster wasted no time in asking the politician why payments are nonetheless rising regardless of Labour’s pre-electoral promise that they might go down by £300 by 2030. He identified: “You did promise the listeners and the electorate that energy bills would be cut by £300. The reality for most people is they’ve gone up by about £110, £111.  

“Politely, why should my listeners believe a word you say?” he chuckled. The MP started to clarify the choice behind the rises, insisting that Labour have a “long-term plan for 2030” earlier than the presenter cut him off.  

He argued: “But you’ve got it the wrong way around Mr Miliband. The bills are going up.” Ed continued: “- [We want] Clean, home-grown power to cut bills by up to £300. Here’s why bills have gone up:  because of our dependence on fossil fuels.  

“Here’s the thing, Nick, every solar panel we put up, every wind turbine – I know you’re not a great fan of the wind turbines – but ever wind turbine we erect, every piece of grid we build makes us more secure and gives us that clean home-grown energy.  

“There is only one answer to get off that dependence, to get off that rollercoaster, and that is the clean power mission of the government and maybe it will even convert you to wind turbines.”  

Nick sceptically requested: “And you still nail your colours to the mast of that £300 cut?” to which the MP insisted: “Absolutely, up to £300 by 2030. It’s what we said at the election, and we continue to stand by it.”  

Despite the politician’s confidence, listeners had been much less than satisfied by his feedback on the show. Flooding to X – previously referred to as Twitter – followers shared their suspicions online.  

One consumer argued: “Bills will keep going up, all costs will keep going up, net zero must go, the extremists agenda wrecked German economy, it will destroy ours, only jobs it created are outside of this country”. 

Another echoed: “We cannot afford to let this lunatic run our energy for another 4.5 years to see whether he cuts energy bills by £300 in 2030! Labour is the party of mendacity!” 

A 3rd identified: “Yeah it will go down by £300 by 2030, but they will have risen by £600 by then too!! What a joke! But of course posh boy here won’t notice the difference, he probably couldn’t tell you what any of his utility bills amount to currently! Thanks Labour, great job [applause emoji].”
