Today marks one yr since Liam Payne died. The former One Direction singer tragically misplaced his life after falling from a resort balcony in Buenos Aires in Argentina. His death sparked tributes across the world, including his former bandmates, who said in a tribute they have been “devastated” and had misplaced a “brother”. Following his death, his pal Rogelio ‘Roger’ Nores and four others faced charges, but appeal court judges have now cleared three of them and reversed an earlier decision to charge them.

As well as Roger, Esteban Grassi, the chief receptionist at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, who made a 911 call before Liam died, and the hotel’s head of security, Gilda Martin, have also been cleared of manslaughter.

However, waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz and hotel worker Ezequiel David Pereyra are currently awaiting trial for allegedly supplying Liam with drugs, and could be jailed for 15 years.

According to LBC, Pereyra argued that senior resort workers intentionally ignored Liam’s drug use in October 2024 and may have doubtlessly saved his life if that they had acted appropriately. 

He claims that “the biggest mistake” was not calling an ambulance when the singer, 31, collapsed in a foyer; instead, Liam was carried up to his room.

Court paperwork also confirmed that the decide, during the investigation, discovered that just before 5pm on the day he died, Liam was clearly “unable to look after himself” and had “clearly fainted” in the resort foyer after binging on booze and “various” other substances. 

The singer was then “dragged” to his room by the receptionist and two others, which the supervisor allowed to occur “at least by omission”.

Judge Laura Bruniard added Liam’s “altered” consciousness and access to a balcony from his resort room meant the “proper thing to do” would have been to “leave him in a safe place and with company until a doctor arrived”.

No date has yet been set for Paiz and Pereyra’s trial, but Express Online reported earlier this month that it’s seemingly to happen next yr.
