LIV Golf star unveils comeback plan as rebel tour | Golf News

Martin Kaymer has expressed his intention to rejoin the DP World Tour, relying on whether or not LIV Golf ceases operations after the 2026 season.

The 11-time European Tour winner joined LIV in June 2022, securing assured compensation for 4 full seasons. However, LIV now faces attainable closure following the Saudi PIF’s withdrawal of funding.

“I always said that the European Tour is my home tour,” Kaymer told bunkered.co.uk. “So I would definitely join the European Tour again, 100 percent.”

The unsure future has left gamers questioning their choices, with many exploring pathways back to either the American or European circuit, relying on their origins.

“I know that I have years [of exemptions], from my successes, that I can go back,” he explained. “Career money list and Ryder Cups, and all those things.

“So I might be actually in doing that if [LIV] would not continue. But even if LIV continues, I would really like to also go back and play.”

When LIV launched in 2022, participants faced fines, sanctions, or multi-year suspensions for teeing off on the worldwide circuit as it recruited some of golf’s elite talent, including Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and six-time major champion Phil Mickelson. Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton encountered substantial fines from the DP World Tour and had their 2027 Ryder Cup eligibility in question for months due to their LIV Golf involvement, though the issue has since been resolved.

“I really feel like if I’m healthy enough, I would really like to give myself another probability for the Ryder Cup if I play enough tournaments,” Kaymer, who has competed in four player appearances at the biennial competition, said.

The window is closing for the Tour player, as applications for DP World Tour membership in 2027 end in November, and the remarks follow the LIV Golf star’s initial revelation that the Michigan team finale is seriously in jeopardy.

“I do know that Indianapolis most seemingly is occurring,” Kaymer told Today’s Golfer at LIV Golf UK. “There was a dialog yesterday. Michigan, extremely unlikely. So mainly, what we already knew.

“That’s why I think it became a captains’ meeting and not a players’ meeting, because they couldn’t give us much more than we had before.”
