A pair whose garden featured on the favored tv programme Love Your Garden have revealed they have been compelled to make a important alteration to the design created by Alan Titchmarsh and his workforce. Keith and Verna Naunton, from Essex, have been being interviewed about their garden after it was named Garden Of The Week by Garden News magazine, when they recalled their expertise with the ITV show, fronted by celebrated horticulturalist Alan.

The pair, who joined the National Garden Scheme 16 years in the past, explained that their garden was put ahead after a TV manufacturing company approached county NGS groups to suggest gardens they thought of appropriate for a new programme entitled ‘Love Your Garden’. The show follows Alan as he travels across the UK exploring themed gardens while offering steering and advice to both the gardeners themselves and viewers at home. The programme has been operating for over 10 years since its debut episode aired in 2011.

Keith and Verna’s garden was duly nominated and the movie crew subsequently paid them a go to. The Essex department of the NGS had praised the couple’s garden for its spectacular multi-layered design.

Speaking to the magazine about their expertise, the pair revealed they made one substantial alteration in the years following Alan and his workforce’s departure.

They said: “For the 30-minute programme, Alan and his team worked on a space that contained a hot tub, giving it a tropical feel, and showed areas of the garden and interviewed us.

“Now the youngsters have grown up we have subsequently changed the new tub with a seating space, which we discover is way more useful for us!”.

Their remarks followed presenter Alan’s candid discussion about how, much like a garden, he has evolved over the years.

In particular, he spoke about the significance of having people in your life who provide encouragement and instil the confidence to take a chance on something new.

Speaking with journalist and podcaster Jake Humphrey, he said: “You need enablers in life who say ‘you understand what it is best to have a go at’. I began as an apprentice gardener, and right here I’m now with a chat show.”

Alan had also, during the same conversation, revealed a number of challenges he faced during his younger years, and how discovering something he was passionate about helped him navigate that troubled period, which he confessed moved him to tears.

He said: “I used to be small at college and pushed around… I imply, I never told anybody. Well, my dad and mom clearly knew. You know, it is half of growing up, and we won’t defend kids from the whole lot. There’s no excuse for bullying at all.

“But, yeah, I was bullied, and if you can find something you love and come to terms with who you are. I was a classic late developer.”
