Madonna and her daughter, Lourdes Leon, have fueled hypothesis about rigidity after an uncomfortable second during a joint interview, in which they mentioned their notoriously advanced relationship.

The Queen of Pop, 67, and her model daughter, 29, have collaborated on a duet, The Test, an intimate monitor from Madonna’s latest album, Confessions II. The music delves into the complexities of their mother-daughter dynamic, with both ladies brazenly addressing years of unexpressed emotions.

Ahead of Madonna’s Club Confessions album launch social gathering in London, hosted in partnership with Grindr, the duo sat down with Bob the Drag Queen to speak about their collaboration.

The interview started awkwardly when Bob launched Lourdes, who initially supplied her mom a handshake before Madonna pulled her in for a kiss on the cheek.

Attempting to ease the strain, Lourdes told her mom, “Hello, you look so pretty,” to which Madonna replied, “So do you.” However, the second turned tense when Lourdes shot back, “Why do you sound surprised?” while imitating Madonna’s expressionless face, reviews the Mirror US.

Madonna dismissed the incident with a snigger, remarking, “Like mother, like daughter,” while Bob might only muster a shocked, “Wow!” Discussing how the collaboration originated, Lourdes disclosed that writing the music together had been her suggestion.

She explained, “I think that between a mother and a daughter and a relationship it’s kind of – there’s a lot of things that are unspoken. There’s a lot of love that’s unspoken but also a lot of tension and emotions that are kind of difficult to put into words because it can be so emotional.

“A manner that I assumed could be simpler for us to communicate about these issues could be through artwork, which is always one thing me and my mum have linked over that’s actually introduced us together.” Madonna confessed that the studio sessions stirred profound emotions within her.

She continued, “It was very emotional and there have been moments when I felt like crying, hugging her. Because as she says we do not always agree on issues but we love creativity and artwork has always linked us. It was a very magical second and we both had to be susceptible.”

When pressed to encapsulate the experience in a single word, Lourdes offered a simple yet powerful response: “Healing.” The heartfelt duet follows Madonna’s candid acknowledgment that their bond had been under considerable strain for several years.

During an appearance on the Graham Norton Show, Madonna disclosed, “She approached me, she’s been very revenant to work with me. She does not need to be perceived as my daughter, taking benefit of her privilege.”

Madonna went on to say, “It was form of neither. She’s been very standoffish and working at her own tempo, and I respect that deeply. She’s a great songwriter and has a a lot better voice than I do. But then in the future she got here to me and said, ‘You know what, I understand I’ve been holding onto one thing,’ and perhaps it is a form of I would like to say anger, what’s another phrase, perhaps resentment?”

“At the end of the day, she did not ask for this. She had been through her adolescence struggling with those emotions for a long time. So she got here to me and said ‘Let’s write a music together, I believe it will likely be a very therapeutic expertise. You say precisely what you need to say and I’ll say precisely what I would like to say.'”.

“And I used to be like, ‘Okay, you are on, let’s do it.’ I used to be so joyful. Her lyrics are stunning.”
