Kevin Hassett confronted robust questioning on CNBC, a lot to the delight of viewers.

The 64-year-old Director of the National Economic Council appeared on CNBC, sitting down with anchor Sara Eisen to talk about the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, which have pushed oil costs to document highs.

Eisen opened the interview by urgent, “For certainty, though, Director Hassett, how much that oil price shock lasts and how much it does seep into the system, because oil can affect so much more transportation and manufacturing than just what you’re paying at the gas pump. It comes after President Donald Trump threatened Iran.

Hassett responded, “You’re proper, and we’re, of course, delicate to that, but I believe that the people who are going to the grocery store proper now and seeing that egg costs are nearly at an all time low perceive that that’s because of President Trump’s coverage to control the Avian flu.

“The beef prices went way, way down because President Trump opened up imports from Argentina, and drug prices were down because of all the policies we pursued to lower drug prices.”

He continued, “And so while there’s macroeconomic stuff that the FED has to think about, we’ve been focused like a laser beam on helping the folks that go to the grocery store find that prices are going down because of prudent deregulatory measures that we’re taking.

“So not only do now we have a good inflation story in phrases of the numbers, but now we have a good inflation story because we all know where the numbers got here from,” he added.

Eisen pushed back, stating, “Yeah. I imply, the grocery stuff has been better news. But you understand, electrical energy costs are high. People really feel that.

“We’ve seen health insurance and medical fees high. We’ve seen airline fares go up. I mean, there, there are still pockets of hotter numbers. And Americans feel those, too.”

Hassett rushed to clarify, clarifying that “Of course, and those things that you’re mentioning are energy-related. And anyone who looks at a chart for energy prices will see that they’ve gone up quite a bit since the situation with Iran began.

“But the president is assured that it may be resolved, and when it is resolved, that those costs will go proper back down to where they had been before,” he continued.

The clip quickly spread across X, with viewers wasting no time expressing their frustration and outrage. One user commented, “The republicans communicate about eggs more than the rest. This is because they’ve a deficiency complicated.”

A second requested, “How many eggs does he assume we buy?!” drawing a sharp response from another user who wrote, “Are Americans actually this silly? Hard to consider anybody may hear to this and keep a straight face.”

One viewer quipped, “We can just eat eggs? Everything else is ridiculously high,” while another chimed in: “Buying groceries is more than shopping for a dozen eggs. Check out the outrageous costs of other gadgets and then inform me what a great job Trump is doing.”
