Meet Luke Rowe, the Islanders prospect who will…

There is no manner to measure this, but it’s virtually actually true: Of all the gamers in the NHL who attended rookie camps over the past week, Luke Rowe absolutely is the individual who has spent the most time contemplating life after hockey.

You would assume, at least, that most gamers at a rookie camp have given virtually no thought to the subject, and why would they? Definitionally, they’re at the starting of their careers, beginning one thing they hope will last for a long time.

The nature of being a skilled athlete calls for a laser focus on today. Not tomorrow, and actually not some undefined quantity of time from now. Of all the myriad questions Matthew Schaefer has been requested over the past few months, what he will do once his hockey profession is over has not been introduced up, because it could be an absurd factor to ask an 18-year-old.

Rowe is an exception to this virtually common rule for two causes. The first is his age, 27, which made him at least 5 years older than most of his friends at Islanders rookie camp and 9 years older than the likes of Schaefer. The second is he already is aware of what he will be doing after his hockey profession, and he has recognized it since he arrived at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs six years in the past.
