Today’s the big day at SCOTUS: Oral argument in the tariff instances. The consolidated instances are Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump and Trump v. V.O.S. MORNING MUSING

Okay, so last evening stunk. I used to be holding out hope for at least one vibrant spot — a New Jersey gubernatorial pickup, a Virginia cut up ticket, perhaps even a gorgeous Mamdani swan dive. Nope. ‘Twasn’t to be.

But, in case anybody’s in my two cents, I’ve some advice for Republicans: Learn from the Democrats — do not be like them, but study from them. We’ve been clucking at them for a 12 months now for failing to replicate on why they misplaced big in 2024. Republicans could be smart not to do the same. This handful of off-year races might not really inform us a ton, but there are classes to be realized from them still. Do it.

Be smart as serpents, and innocent as doves.

And lest you end up overly discouraged by Tuesday evening’s outcomes, keep in mind that today is the one-year anniversary of a major win, not just for Republicans, but for the nation as a complete. Focus on what’s proper and focus on what works.
