Jalen Carter pocketed a substantial sum for his look in the Philadelphia Eagles’ season opener despite being despatched off before the opening play. Carter still managed to earn handsomely from his fleeting on-pitch appearance, having collected a complete match fee despite not playing a single down against the Cowboys.

Based on his $1.03 million salary for 2025, the 24 year old receives $57,222 from the Eagles on a weekly basis.

It remains unclear how the NFL – which has placed greater emphasis this season on sanctioning players for unsporting behaviour – will discipline Carter for his actions. Previously, players involved in comparable spitting controversies have faced fines ranging from $7,500 to $35,000 from the league.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni emphasised that the team’s disciplinary measures would remain private. “I’m going to keep all our conversations and all my disciplinary issues in-house, but we have now to repair it as coaches,” he said.

“You see how I coach with emotion, and I would like them to play with emotion, and that’s what I type of say all the time is you’ve gotten to do it within the foundations of the sport. We need everyone on the market to help us achieve success.”

Further sanctions could be imposed on Prescott, who appeared to spit towards Carter – though not directly at him – before the defender hit back.

“‘I’m rattling sure I’m not attempting to spit on you.’ We’re about to play a recreation. I’m questioning why you are attempting to mess with the rookie, and so when I stepped through, I truly say the phrases like, ‘Why the hell would I -‘ excuse me, but I’m most likely even more colourful. ‘What would I need to spit on you for?’ He just spit on me in that second, it was more of a shock than something.”
