Only Answer Is to Tax the Pants Off the Rich – | Political News

New York’s new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, is already discovering that governing will be a complete lot more durable than campaigning — you even have to handle a price range, ship on providers, and do so without alienating your key supporters and allies.

The grinning socialist is realizing that he and the Big Apple are going through some severe fiscal points, but he has three solutions: 1) It’s all former Mayor Eric Adams’ fault (with some help from disgraced former Empire State Governor Andrew Cuomo, and 2) Scare the heck out of everybody by saying we’re risking the next “Great Recession,” and 3) We can remedy the drawback by taxing the bejesus out all rich residents and firms.

He may just discover out, like his progressive fellow governor, California’s Gavin Newsom, that #3 will just trigger many of them to hit the freeway — taking their wealth with them — but he’ll fear about that later, evidently.

It’s all as simple as ABC, Zohran argued:

During a press convention on Wednesday, Mamdani accused Adams of underbudgeting important providers that NYC residents “rely on every single day,” while “quietly leaving behind enormous gaps for the future.” Mamdani also accused former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) of extracting NYC’s “resources” and utilizing the metropolis’s revenues to “address state level holes, while withholding from the city what it was owed.”

“There is a massive fiscal deficit in our city’s budget to the tune of at least $12 billon. We did not arrive at this place by accident. This crisis has a name, and a chief architect,” Mamdani said. “In the words of The Jackson 5, it’s as easy as ABC. This is the ‘Adams Budget Crisis.’”

“We are speaking about a fiscal crisis at a scale greater than the Great Recession,” Mamdani maintained.

You know where this goes, proper? Because the risk is so high, it’s therefore “time for the rich to pay their fair share.” We’ve heard that before, haven’t we?

It will require us to pursue every single avenue. That means trying inward into financial savings and efficiencies, that also means raising taxes on the wealthiest New Yorkers, and the most profitable companies.

When he says, “raising taxes,” he doesn’t imply in a little approach:

During the press convention, Mamdani added that “if the top 1% of New Yorkers pay an additional 2% in income taxes,” they’d not only give you the chance to put NYC “back on firmer financial footing, but also build a strong city for everyone,” the Gothamist reported.

Adams wasn’t impressed with Mamdani’s blamecasting and defended himself on social media:

Now that the math doesn’t work, instead of proudly owning the fact that he misled New Yorkers, he’s blaming me.
Let’s be clear: I left him over $8 BILLION in reserves.

“Free” isn’t free. It’s just a invoice another person has to pay.

The mayor plans to release his preliminary price range on February 17. Can’t wait to see that one.

We knew that the Mamdani period was going to carry in drama, silliness, hardcore socialist dogma, and more. Now it’s right here, and that’s precisely what we’re getting.
