Original Naked Gun jumps ahead of Happy Gilmore 2 | TV Shows

Streaming interest in The Naked Gun franchise has surged during the first week of the reboot’s release, with data showing a 354% jump in viewership since June 30, capped by a 64% spike in the past 24 hours.

According to streaming guide JustWatch, all three original Naked Gun films are experiencing renewed popularity as Paramount’s reboot, starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, hit theaters Friday.

Fueling the streaming boom, fans are revisiting the 1988 classic film The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, which has climbed to No. 6 on JustWatch’s U.S. daily streaming chart, surpassing titles like 28 Days Later, Until Dawn, and The Amateur.

JustWatch confirmed the data is based on user activity and clickouts across their platform between June 30 and July 29, reflecting interest in all three entries, The Naked Gun, The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear, and Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult.

“The original is clearly clicking with nostalgic fans and first-time viewers alike,” the platform noted.

With early projections estimating a $16 million opening weekend at over 3,300 locations, it would mark Neeson’s strongest domestic debut in a leading role since Taken 3 opened to $39.2 million in 2014.

If those estimates hold, it would edge out the $15 million opening for No Hard Feelings, the 2023 R-rated comedy.
