The end of the Iran conflict could also be nearing, as the U.S. and the Islamic Republic reportedly are close to reaching an settlement on a memorandum of understanding.
An unnamed Pakistani official just lately spoke to GWN about the continued negotiations between the 2 nations. Pakistan has been one of the most vocal advocates for a long-term peace deal, and discussions are being mediated by the Middle Eastern nation.
“We will close this very soon. We are getting close,” the Pakistani official said.
According to Axios, 4 other officials also confirmed that Washington and Tehran are close to reaching an settlement that would successfully end the conflict that started on Feb. 28.
While the memorandum is not going to be a remaining peace deal, it is going to however declare the battle over, opening a 30-day period to totally negotiate a peace plan. The long-term settlement will dictate a number of closely contested points, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, eased U.S. sanctions on Iran, and maybe the most controversial level—Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Trump threatens to resume strikes if deal is not reached
On Wednesday, Trump warned Iran that large-scale strikes might resume in Tehran if the Middle Eastern nation doesn’t “give what has been agreed to.” While he didn’t specify the half of the deal he was referring to, the president expressed want to shortly open the Strait of Hormuz.
“Assuming Iran agrees to give what has been agreed to, which is, perhaps, a big assumption, the already legendary Epic Fury will be at an end, and the highly effective Blockade will allow the Hormuz Strait to be OPEN TO ALL, including Iran,” Trump wrote on Wednesday morning.
“If they don’t agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before,” he added.

Reports of a deal come after Trump announced a determination to pause “Project Freedom,’ the administration’s efforts to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, to see whether an agreement could be reached with Tehran.
Trump said the decision to end the contested plan was based “on the request of Pakistan and other Countries, the great Military Success that now we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran and, moreover, the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran.”
The White House has not commented on the state of the deal or how close it is to ending the war.
Interestingly, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday that the military operation in Iran was over, but he declined to answer whether the conflict as a whole was coming to an end.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Rubio said that “Operation Epic Fury”—the joint U.S. and Israel attacks on Iran that started the war— is “concluded” because the objectives of the mission were all successfully concluded.
“We’re not cheering for an further state of affairs to happen,” he said. “We would like the trail of peace.” However, in order for that to happen, Rubio said Iran must agree to Trump’s demands on its nuclear program and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
