Remember That Fight Over Muslim Foot-Washing

A few weeks back, there was fairly a bit of furor over plans to add Muslim foot-washing stations to bogs at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). The plan was finally scrapped after Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) intervened, saying, “These ablution facilities appear designed to single out one subset of the population for special treatment based on religion. That is illegal.”

As RedState beforehand reported, these particular “Ablution stations,” also called Wudu stations, are half of an Islamic ritual that requires Muslims to wash their fingers, face, arms, and toes before ritual prayer. Muslims transferring through locations like DFW had been apparently utilizing odd lavatory sinks to wash their toes.

One of the justifications for putting in the foot-washing stations is that vacationers performing Wudu had been washing their toes in odd lavatory sinks, which is disgusting and extremely unhygienic. Can you think about strolling in on that? Furthermore, the feet-washers apparently had been leaving the restrooms lined in water as they strutted out on their shiny, clean toes. 

And there’s also the wear-and-tear on the counters after untold numbers of people have put their toes up on them.

And if you thought odd lavatory sinks weren’t the optimum place for ritual foot-washing, New York City would now like a phrase.

A Dunkin’ worker working at the Staten Island Ferry terminal was caught on video taking issues one very unhygienic step additional – washing his toes not in the restaurant lavatory, but in a sink behind the counter at the espresso store.

The video, apparently taken August 11, rapidly went viral on social media, prompting tons of snarky feedback:

“Would you like feet with your doughnut?” one disgusted commenter requested.

Another joked, “Is he on feet finder?”

And a third quipped, “Who needs a foot spa when you’ve got Dunkin’ Donut?”

The man’s actions have reportedly also caught the eye of local health division officers.

The Health Department told The Post in a assertion, “The NYC Health Department promotes the safety of food served in the city’s restaurants so New Yorkers and visitors can dine without fear of becoming ill. Restaurants are required to follow food safety requirements,” while NYC DOT said it “is reviewing and will take appropriate action.”

Dunkin’ has not publicly commented on the incident as of Sunday morning.

Back in Texas, Gov. Abbott is not accomplished with this issue. 

On Friday, Abbott escalated issues significantly, referring both DFW and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport to the Department of Justice for investigation over their current ablution amenities. Said the governor, “Airports can no more offer Muslim-only bathroom spaces than they can maintain white-only bathrooms.”
