Parents are all about the vacation hype: a new survey has discovered 55% get just as excited as their youngsters when it’s time to unwrap gifts. 

But the real problem, according to the ballot of 2,000 US millennial mother and father, is preserving the enjoyment of opening gifts alive on vacation mornings from persistent, curious youngsters.

Amidst the chaos of opening gifts (which practically all 98% said they love), many let their morning espresso or tea go cold (48%), miss cellphone calls and texts (44%) and will stop all the things to assemble or set up gifts as soon as they’re opened (37%).

Commissioned by Lowe’s and carried out by Talker Research, the research revealed that youngsters ask their mother and father about their gifts an average of 51 instances over the course of the vacation season.

Data exhibits mother and father are using gifts as a bribery software an average of 39 instances during the vacation months, with over half (56%) using a holiday-related character (i.e., Santa Claus, Krampus, Jack Frost, and so on.) to deter their child from snooping for their gifts.

To keep those presents a secret, most mother and father are placing major effort into hiding them forward of the vacations. Two in three (63%) disguise gifts as one thing else to keep their youngsters from suspecting, and 34% will let their youngsters discover decoy gifts to throw them off the scent.

However, over half (55%) of mother and father admitted their hiding abilities sometimes get the best of them —they’ve forgotten where they’ve hidden gifts, only discovering them after the vacations. In fact, 29% have had to re-buy gifts because they had been too nicely hidden or misplaced.

The research discovered many mother and father are sticking to their tried-and-true hiding spots for gifts, like in closets (56%), their bed room (54%), in their car (26%), in the basement (22%), and even in the storage (20%). 

Others are getting even more artistic: hiding gifts at a member of the family’s or good friend’s home (19%), in the attic (15%), in suitcases (13%), in sheds (13%), at work (10%), inside home equipment (8%) and in the trash (4%).

Some shared the more weird locations they’ve tucked away gifts: basement crawl areas, behind hanging art work, in cereal containers, in soiled laundry and even in the doghouse. 

Despite the lengths they go to disguise what their youngsters are most excited for during the vacations, mother and father can’t help but really feel pleasure (62%), pleasure (44%) and nostalgia (39%) when preserving their gifts hidden efficiently.
