Patrick Reeds reason for not watching Ryder Cup | Golf News
Keegan Bradley, Team USA’s Ryder Cup captain, was confronted with a robust resolution over his six captain’s picks for the September Bethpage Black event.
Despite his own strong efficiency, he selected to choose six other gamers instead of himself.
Patrick Reed, the 2018 Masters champion, was not among Bradley’s alternatives, despite ending third at Augusta in 2025. Instead, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Patrick Cantlay, Sam Burns, and Cameron Young have been named as Bradley’s captain’s picks.
Following the choice, Reed, while taking part in the Irish Open, was requested by the Irish Mail if he deliberate to watch the Ryder Cup. He confessed that he would not be tuning in.
“I’ll definitely be rooting for the boys,” he acknowledged. “But it’s one of those things that I don’t watch golf when I’m at home.”
He additional explained his stance, saying: “I realized that when I had my two little ones, I mean, there’s life outside of golf. So, when I’m not practicing or playing, I’m home being a dad, being a husband, being a father, and all that. Just having a good time rather than trying to be so tuned in to golf and watching other golfers play.”
Reed also talked about that he was “hoping” to make the cut. “I knew it was going to be an outside shot just because of not being able to get points and things like that, just being on LIV,” he continued. “But honestly, I felt like the games had been really good until this week.”
Reed has seven top 10 finishes and one victory across the LIV season. He missed the cut at The Open Championship, a event the American concluded he needed to win.
“I mean, the driver has just been awful,” Reed continued. “I feel like this week has not been reflective really of how I’ve been playing, how I’ve been hitting the ball. I’ve been hitting the ball great.”
When requested who the most tough participant to exclude was, Bradley could not determine a single participant. “They were all tough. It was all me sitting on my chair in my house trying to get the strength to call these guys,” he said.
“I know what it takes to get this close to making the team and not making it. You never know if you’re ever going to get another shot. As a player, I was aware of that when I didn’t make the last team. It’s heartbreaking.
“When you get this close to making a Ryder Cup group, one of the toughest groups to make in any sport, it is devastating.”
