Peacocking 60 Minutes Journo Struts Straight | Political News

Earlier, my RedState colleague Brad Slager reported on a extremely contentious all-hands assembly that was held on Monday between “60 Minutes” staffers and the show’s new government producer, Nick Bilton.

To rapidly recap, the purpose of the assembly was to lay out the trail ahead for this system under his management, which formally began last Thursday, the same day the show’s now-former government producer, Tanya Simon, “along with other top producers and correspondents, including Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega,” had been fired by CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss in what’s been described as a “bloodbath.”

Scott Pelley, a veteran “60 Minutes” correspondent and typical leftist legacy media blowhard, had a meltdown, according to experiences, questioning Bilton’s credentials and demanding to know the rationale behind last week’s firings, firings in which Bilton had no position. When Bilton said they need to take their dialog non-public, Pelley refused. Pelley continued to insult both Bilton and Weiss over an alleged lack of expertise, telling Bilton that Weiss was “murdering” this system, and that he was curious as to why Bilton determined to take on the position, “knowing that you will never be welcome here.”

As one may think, Pelley’s infantile and pompous eruptions didn’t go over properly, and on Tuesday evening, he was handed his strolling papers, with an instant efficient date:

“[Y]ou hijacked my first meeting with staff to disparage me, my qualifications, and my intentions with remarkable incivility and contempt,” Bilton wrote, referring to Monday’s heated face-off between the journo and his boss.

Bilton additional accused Pelley of staging a “performative display of hostility” and claimed he had “no interest in contributing to the future success of the show, or approaching my new tenure with a mind open to collaboration and progress.”

“I am here to deliver first-in-class news programming, not to make headlines about newsroom drama,” Bilton wrote.

Bilton also famous that one of the first issues he did upon arrival last week was to call Pelley and invite him to dinner so they may discuss, an offer Pelley didn’t settle for. In other phrases, Pelley selected Monday to grandstand, peacock, and attempt to throw his weight around instead of having a civil one-on-one dialog.

Puck News senior correspondent Dylan Byers also shared the backstory on X relating to what immediately preceded the choice to terminate Pelley’s employment for trigger:

Bari Weiss, Nick Bilton, Tom (*60*), and CBS HR invited Scott Pelley to a assembly at 5pm ET tonight to focus on a path ahead after his vocal protest earlier this week in the 60 Minutes all-hands.

The two sides didn’t discover common ground. Bari & Co. had been left with sense that Scott was not open minded about reaching detente; meanwhile, Scott maintained strong frustrations with management.

Scott left assembly and was told they’d have an update on his employment in a matter of minutes… instead, Bari and her workforce deliberated for a number of hours.

At around 9:30 p.m., Nick Bilton, the new 60 Minutes E.P., despatched this letter to Scott (see tweet below) in which he tells him he has been terminated “for cause.” He also despatched a memo to workers (see tweet below that).

The language in Nick’s memo suggests a legal combat coming. No response yet from Pelley.

I agree with Brad’s evaluation in his earlier write-up that it is virtually like Pelley was angling to get fired, because if there’s something members of the company press love to do more than show their liberal bias, it is to fake to be the sufferer in conditions like these.

That said, I do not care who you might be or how a lot seniority you have constructed up; if you stroll in with the purpose to mess with the bull, you’d better count on to get the horns, and then some, and that’s precisely what occurred right here.
