The girls on The View slammed Pete Hegseth’s graduation tackle at West Point.
The co-hosts of the ABC discuss show—Whoopi Goldberg, Sarah Haines, Joy Behar and Alyssa Farah Griffin—spoke about the Department of War’s (previously Secretary of Defense) speech at the US Military Academy’s commencement on May 23. They performed a clip of his speech to the graduates, which included him saying that they don’t seem to be an “army of woke” and slamming his “long-lost” alma mater, Princeton, for being “woke” and there being “woke and weak leaders” making an attempt to rework West Point into the Ivy League college.
He went on to discuss about the methods they modified West Point to be like his alma mater, like embracing “the DEI craze” and hiring professors” who advocated for anti-American ideologies.” Hegseth also remarked, “You can’t throw your pronouns at the enemy,” and that “battlefield does not grade on a curve.” He said that the “best” American must cross the “ultimate test” of fight. This got here before Hegseth’s Memorial Day tackle, where he was brutally mocked over a Freudian slip.
Whoopi started the dialogue by itemizing the stats on the army’s range and said she’s “not sure what his message was,” as she famous that Hegseth is “looking at a diverse military.” She questioned if the previous Fox News host knew his historical past and if he was just “dumb.”

Sarah said he is “willfully ignorant,” mixed with being “regular ignorant.” She added that having a speech like that in entrance of the army during Memorial Day weekend “loses sight” of the inaugural Memorial Day. The journalist then explained the historical past of the start of Memorial Day, which began when Black residents of Charleston determined to give deceased Union troopers, who had been buried in mass graves, a correct burial in 1865.
Then Sarah famous ladies the next 12 months laid flowers on the troopers’ graves, referring to the group of ladies from the Civil War hospital city of Columbus, Mississippi, who positioned flowers on the graves of fallen troopers.
“It’s deeply alarming that he would speak to these future military leaders with that message. So uninformed,” Sarah remarked.

Sunny said she suspects Hegseth would not know the historical past and that they know Hegseth is “deeply unqualified.”
She said it is “sad” that somebody would say they’re against Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She famous how now being against DEI is taken into account a “good quality” when, years before, it was thought-about “a bigoted and racist” high quality.
She spoke on Hegseth’s controversial historical past. She identified when Hegseth ordered a 20% discount of four-star officers, a majority of them being Black and ladies, and when he fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Charles Q. Brown Jr., in 2025, who is Black. Both Sunny and Alyssa Farah famous that Brown Jr. is “one of the most beloved men”; the attorney also added, “qualified.”

A few days later, after Hegseth’s West Point speech, he gave a speech at a Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on May 25.
In his speech, the 45-year-old first said, “The young American on the battlefield away from home,” while raising his fist. Hegseth continued, “He stayed in combat with loved ones by a…” before stopping.
As he paused abruptly, Hegseth peered down at his papers before persevering with his speech. He restarted the assertion, “He stayed in contact with his loved ones by writing letters.”
