Putin agrees to meet Zelensky after Trump talks as | Political News
Karoline Leavitt spoke to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, following President Donald Trump‘s assembly with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.
After the assembly, Trump announced that preparations for a trilateral assembly with Zelensky, himself, and Russian President Vladimir Putin have been already underway.
“At the conclusion of the meetings, I called President Putin, and began the arrangements for a meeting, at a location to be determined, between President Putin and President Zelensky,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“This was a very good, early step for a War that has been going on for almost four years,” he said.
Leavitt told reporters that Trump’s dialog with Putin led to the Russian chief agreeing “to begin the next phase of the peace process.”
The first step can be a assembly between Presidents Putin and Zelensky, said Leavitt, before the eventual trilateral assembly with President Trump “if necessary.”
Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and particular envoy Steve Witkoff are coordinating with Ukraine and Russia to set up the summit.
“It’s very important to remember that before President Trump’s victory last November, there was no end in sight to this bloodshed,” said Leavitt. “Now, there may finally be light at the end of the tunnel and an opportunity for lasting peace.”
