United States intelligence officers are scrambling on Tuesday, after investigators have uncovered evidence suggesting that Russia was at least partially accountable for a hack of a laptop system that manages federal court paperwork.

According to a number of people briefed on the breach, the pc systems reportedly include extremely delicate info, including confidential sources and people charged with national security crimes.

Peter Kaplan, a spokesman for the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, which helps administer the system, declined to comment to the Times.

The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter.

Federal officials are now scrambling to determine the patterns of the breach, assess the damages, and address the flaws in the massive system long known to have serious vulnerabilities that could be exploited by foreign adversaries.

Trump said Monday that he expected to determine mere moments into his meeting with Putin this week whether it would be possible to work out a deal to halt the war in Ukraine.

“At the end of that meeting, probably the first two minutes, I’ll know exactly whether or not a deal can be made,” Trump said at a White House press conference that he called to announce plans for a federal takeover of Washington’s police force to help combat crime.

He said he thought Friday’s sitdown with Putin in Alaska would be “really a feel-out meeting.” Trump added that “it’ll be good, but it might be bad” and predicted he may say, “lots of luck, keep fighting. Or I may say, we can make a deal.”
