NEW YORK — Samsung is saying goodbye to its namesake texting app, at least for United States prospects.
According to an end-of-service announcement revealed on the tech giant’s US help web site, Samsung Messages will probably be discontinued in July.
Impacted homeowners of Samsung smartphones and other gadgets are being requested to switch to Google Messages in the meantime, “to maintain a consistent messaging experience on Android.”

All Samsung Galaxy telephones run on Google’s Android working system. To switch to Google Messages, Samsung’s web site provides users instructions to obtain the app from the Play Store, if not already on their telephone, and set it as the default.
Some people might also obtain an in-app notification to information them through the method.
Samsung says switching to Google Messages will give users access to updates just like the latest artificial intelligence options from Google’s Gemini — which incorporates an experimental function called “Remix” to generate photos during conversations and AI-powered reply strategies — and the flexibility to share greater high quality pictures between Android and Apple iOS devices through RCS-enabled messages.
