Sean O'Malley on UFC 316 loss to Merab | MMA News

Former bantamweight titleholder Sean O’Malley went into the UFC 316 championship rematch against Merab Dvalishvili assured that he would win back the title from the person who took it. But it wan’t meant to be.

“Not having to get surgery after the fight, it’s so like, oh my God. I don’t know if that’s why it still feels so f*cking like happy, grateful. I don’t have to get surgery,” O’Malley stated. “After the last fight, that sucked. Losing the belt and then having to get surgery right after, that was was not good. 

“This time, it is like, nicely, what are you going to do,” continued O’Malley. “Happiness is a ability, so for me to give you the option to go through one thing like that and then the next Sunday rolls around, Monday rolls around, I do not really feel unhappy at all. I still really feel very pleased. I really feel a little disenchanted in the result. I really feel pissed off, but there’s no unhappiness inside of me.”

O’Malley wants to jump back in the gym and get back to training to expand on the improvements he made in preparation for UFC 316. 

“I would like to get back in the health club, back to coaching. I really feel I grew so a lot that battle camp as a fighter. There’s still a lot for me to do, clearly, a lot to work on. I’m excited to get back to work,” he said. “I’m also really feel like I grew a lot in my personal life in that battle camp … That was so price it. Win or lose, I really feel like I gained so a lot from that camp.”
