Senator slams Musk over federal worker order, | Political News


US Senator Tina Smith has hit out at Elon Musk’s order requiring federal staff to justify their jobs or face dismissal, describing it because the “ultimate d— boss move.”

It comes after Musk on Saturday ordered lots of of hundreds of federal staff to reply to an electronic mail by Monday explaining what they completed over the final week or risk dropping their jobs.

Smith, a Minnesota Democrat, didn’t mince her phrases as she took to social media on Saturday to voice her considerations in regards to the directive.

Musk responded to Smith’s post on X, asking her “What did you get done last week?”

Smith fired back, saying: “I hate to break it to you but you aren’t my boss. I answer to the people of Minnesota.”

“But since you bring it up, I spent last week fighting to stop tax breaks for billionaires like you, paid for by defunding health care for moms and babies,” Smith wrote.

Following Musk’s demand, federal staff acquired an electronic mail stating, “please reply to this email with approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager.”

Some US companies, together with the FBI, State Department and the Pentagon, have since instructed their workers to not adjust to Musk’s order.

The directive sparked confusion throughout companies, with some lawmakers arguing it’s unlawful. Unions threatened to sue and demanded the Trump administration rescind the request.
