SNL’s cringe Elon Musk skit slammed by viewers | TV Shows
Saturday Night Live sparked backlash after its latest cold open took aim at Elon Musk, with viewers describing the segment as uncomfortable, cruel, and “just not funny.”
The sketch opened with Mike Myers playing Musk in a cheese hat—a nod to Musk’s recent appearance at a Wisconsin rally—interrupting James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump.
“Say cheese! Hahahaha, kidding, kidding,” Myers said, tossing the hat aside. “That was from when I tried to buy the election in Wisconsin, uhhhh, I’m an idiot, I should’ve just bought Wisconsin.”
The scene quickly escalated when Myers’ Musk began glitching, a recurring jab at Musk’s public image, prompting Trump to respond: “Elon it was great, but sadly, it’s time to never see you again, OK? You gotta get back to Tesla, right? Because they’re doing pretty bad.”
Myers continued the act with an awkward dance, adding: “Yes, recently our dealerships have been the target of many attacks and suddenly, no one likes Tesla cars. So, I ask myself why and then I answered myself, ‘cause of me.’”
Still, some defended the sketch. One viewer called it “perfection,” another said it was “funny as hell,” and a third added: “F—ing hilarious Mike hit his mark again.”
Musk, who revealed his Asperger’s diagnosis during his 2021 SNL monologue, had previously joked: “Look I know I sometimes say or post strange things, but that’s just how my brain works.”
Meanwhile, Musk is reportedly stepping down early from his role in the Department of Government Efficiency. The exit comes amid controversy and recent events, including his appearance at a Wisconsin rally, increased vandalism targeting Tesla vehicles, and a suspected arson that destroyed 17 Teslas in Italy.
