During a latest episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the speak show host addressed the latest hantavirus outbreak that originated on a cruise ship.
The lethal outbreak Colbert was discussing occurred on the MV Hondius cruise ship, which noticed at least three people succumb to the virus, and a number of extreme infections among passengers. The ship, which set sail from Argentina, was positioned in quarantine close by Africa’s Cape Verde coast, with around 149 people on board following the outbreak of the uncommon Andes pressure of the hantavirus. Experts have said the virus will not be as contageous as Covid-19.
Colbert took a second during his May 12 monologue to tackle the outbreak. The episode comes just before Colbert is set to say goodbye to late evening tv next week.
The host jokingly requested his viewers, “Hey quick question personal question, if you dont mind me asking. Anybody going on a cruise this summer?”
After one particular person raised their hand, he said, “Alright! Well, do not forget to not do that. Because recently, I don’t know if you, sir, have seen the news. A deadly outbreak of hantavirus stranded a cruise ship in the Atlantic Ocean.”
He continued, “Sadly three people have passed away. But now passengers are being disembarked and returned to their home countries for quarantine. This is tough to hear because I know we’re all having flashbacks to covid. But I wanna be clear, hantavirus is different. This time, we know how it works, we know how it spreads, and we know how to stop it. So I’m not worried at all.”
“Yesterday, RFK Jr. was asked about the outbreak and he said this,” Colbert said before cutting to a clip of the secretary of the Department of Health, who said, “We have this under control and we’re not worried about it.”
After a short pause, Colbert then blurted out, “We’re all gonna die.” The viewers bursted into laughter after the sly diss at RFK Jr, who was standing in the Oval Office alongside Trump during his statements.

The show’s official Instagram shared a clip of the second, which noticed followers react as they put together to bid farewell to the beloved TV character. One particular person wrote, “The bad news? Hantavirus outbreak. The worse news? RFK Jr. is in charge.”
“Stephen’s comedic timing is excellent,” another praised.
One begged, “Stephen, please don’t go. We need you! I have survived on your humor and banter. Please don’t leave us with our current situation….laughing at them is the only tool of survival!!”
“Hey so maybe you’ll broadcast from home for old time’s sake? Please?” one more echoed.
