BBC politics programme Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg was interrupted just seconds into the printed for a piece of devastating breaking news, as anchor Kuenssberg introduced the show to a halt. Starting to read the bulletins from the newspaper entrance pages, she told viewers: “Morning, morning. Let’s start as we always do with what is making the news this Sunday. Kuenssberg then turned to Reform UK councillor Laila Cunningham, saying: “Now, by a very strange coincidence your nephew, who’s a doctor, is nearby. Have you spoken to him this morning?”

Cunningham was told by her nephew that “at least 12 people” had been killed, including: “I rang him to check that he was okay and he was at a beach about 10 minutes away.

“I’m just reading his text messages now. Some rumours of other Jewish areas being hit too as it’s a Jewish holiday and I think it’s quite a Jewish area. Nothing confirmed, but it seems to be a coordinated anti-Jewish attack.”
