The Gold fans spot throwback BBC detail seconds before | UK News

The much-anticipated second collection of The Gold has premiered to a buzz of pleasure, with fans eagerly discussing the crime drama before it even aired.

However, it was the nostalgic BBC One ident from the Nineties that really despatched viewers into a frenzy just before the collection kicked off. Crowds took to X (previously recognized as Twitter) to specific fondness for the retro introduction, which hasn’t graced screens since 1997.

Fans gushed on social media with posts such as: “It was good to see an outdated BBC One ident at the beginning of this night’s new collection of #TheGold,” and “A wee 90’s throwback tonight on #BBCOneScotland Fun fact – These idents ceased to exist 1 month after I was born.”

Another viewer marveled, “Wow, a return of the 1991 globe/ident and an appropriate sting too! Spoiling us! And I noted the care taken with the announcement saying ‘This is BBC Scotland on 1′.”

One impassioned fan even known as out, “Can this BBC1 symbol (Saturday 16 February 1991 to Friday 3 October 1997) be brought back permanently please?”, studies Cornwall Live.

And a last viewer added: “I loved how #TheGold opened with this ident. Added atmosphere.”

After a two-year hiatus, The Gold makes its grand comeback with Hugh Bonneville once again portraying DCS Brian Boyce, embarking on the hunt for the notorious stash of gold bullion, money, and diamonds pilfered from a warehouse close to Heathrow Airport in 1983.

In their second case, Boyce, DI Tony Brightwell (portrayed by Emun Elliott) and DI Nicki Jennings (Charlotte Spencer) are sizzling on the heels of a legal gang laundering money in the West Country.

The drama’s ’90s backdrop wasn’t the only cause for a retro twist with nostalgic BBC idents this Sunday (eighth June).

BBC2 took the chance to honour Alan Yentob, nostalgically commemorating his stint as controller from 1987 to 1993 and his varied high-ranking roles within the organisation.

Yentob sadly handed away on Saturday, twenty fourth May, aged 78.

A particular announcement on BBC2 acknowledged: “Tonight we pay a tribute to and celebrate a creative visionary, Alan Yentob, with highlights from his 50+ years here at the BBC and idents like this one, which were commissioned by Alan when he was BBC2 controller.”

The Gold collection 2 continues Sundays at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
