Zak Starkey, the twice-ousted drummer of The Who, has issued a fiery assertion following his most up-to-date dismissal from the enduring rock band.

The group, which Zak joined in 1996, declared he was out of their touring lineup, with Scott Devours slated to take over the drumming duties on their upcoming farewell tour across America that’s kicking off in July.

In a daring transfer, Zak promptly reposted The Who’s authentic announcement on Instagram and countered: “I was fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit the who to pursue my other musical endevours this would be a lie.”

He continued, expressing his devotion to the band: “I like the who and would never had stop. So I didn’t make the assertion ….quitting The Who would also have let down the numerous superb people who stood up for me (thanks all a million instances over and more) through the weeks of mayhem of me going ‘in an out an in an out an in an out like a bleedin squeezebox x “

Zak further clarified his ‘other projects’, reinstating his commitment to the band: “To clarify ‘other projects’ yes I do have other projects and always have. The Who have been sporadic or minimalist in touring most years apart from a two extensive tours in 2000 and 2006/7.”

Zak further added: “Releasing singles but not touring cos members are so busy. None of this has ever interfered with The Who and was never a problem for them. The lie is or would have been that I quit The Who- I didn’t. I like the who and everybody in it.’

On the opposite hand, Pete Townshend, the band’s legendary guitarist, confirmed Zak’s departure on social media in a diplomatic assertion, sharing: “After a few years of great work on drums from Zak the time has come for a change. A poignant time. Zak has heaps of new initiatives in hand and I want him the best.”

Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey of The Who also recently announced a major shift in the band’s future, sharing: “The Who are heading for retirement, whereas Zak is 20yrs youthful and has a great future with his new band and different thrilling initiatives. He wants to commit all his power into making it all a success. We both want him all the luck in the world.”

This marks the second departure of the drummer from the band within a month. Previously on April 15, reports emerged that he was dismissed due to performance issues at a Teenage Cancer Trust concert, reports the Mirror.

However, Townshend clarified their position, expressing: “He’s not being requested to step down from The Who. There have been some communication points, personal and non-public on all sides, that needed to be dealt with, and these have been aired fortunately. Roger and I would love Zak to tighten up his newest advanced drumming type to accommodate our non-orchestral line up and he has readily agreed. I take duty for some of the confusion.”

Townshend also reflected on his own challenges during recent performances, admitting: “Our TCT exhibits at the Royal Albert Hall have been a little tough for me. I assumed that 4 and a half weeks could be enough time to get better fully from having a full knee alternative. (Why did I ever suppose I may land on my knees?) Wrong!

“Maybe we didn’t put enough time into sound checks, giving us problems on stage. The sound in the centre of the stage is always the most difficult to work with. Roger did nothing wrong but fiddle with his in-ear monitors. Zak made a few mistakes and he has apologised. Albeit with a rubber duck drummer.”

The iconic guitarist continued: “We are a family, this blew up very quickly and got too much oxygen. It’s over. We move forward now with optimism and fire in our bellies. As for Roger, fans can enjoy his forthcoming solo shows with his fabulous drummer.

“I owe Scott an apology for not crushing that hearsay before it unfold. He has been harm by this. I promise to buy him a very long drink and give him a hug.”
