PORT ST. LUCIE — Carson Benge has handed the attention check in spring training, solidifying his case to crack the Opening Day roster as the beginning Mets proper fielder.
“I just felt like I wanted to come in and play the way I know how, play hard,” said Benge, the group’s top place prospect. “I feel like I have done that.”
Benge’s standing highlights three unanswered questions about the Mets’ 26-man roster forward of next Thursday’s season opener against the Pirates at Citi Field.
