Team Europe has locked in its Ryder Cup captain for the 2027 biennial event, while the United States’ captain standing stays unsure following their 2025 defeat in New York.

“I think it’s just kind of waiting. We wait and see,” Thomas commented during the Players Championship press convention when requested if discussions about the next captaincy had occurred.

Thomas is concerned in the discussions due to his place on the Ryder Cup committee, stating that talks are ongoing but the conversations stay confidential. Bradley expressed he can be keen to assume the position again despite the loss being one of the ‘darkest occasions of my life, most likely’.

Woods, talking prior to the 2026 Genesis Invitational, confirmed that the PGA of America has contacted him. “Yeah, they have asked me for my input on it,” Woods acknowledged.

“And I haven’t made my decision yet. I’m trying to figure out what we’re trying to do with our tour. That’s been driving me hours upon hours every day and trying to figure out if I can actually do our team, our Team USA and our players and everyone that’s going to be involved in the Ryder Cup, if I can do it justice with my time.

“Serving on two boards and what I’m doing for the PGA TOUR, I’m attempting to work out if I can truly do this and serve the people that are concerned and serve them at an honorable stage.”

Woods is currently a member of the PGA Tour’s policy committee and enterprises board, and Thomas noted he would commit the time if available.

“He shouldn’t be going to do something if he can not totally be into it and give it his full consideration,” Thomas said. In December, former captain Bradley expressed his desire for redemption.

“I’d love to avenge that loss, but that’s not up to me,” Bradley stated. “That’s not up to — I do not suppose that’s honest for me to come out right here and say that. But I’d love to do it again at some level. I do not know if that will ever occur, most likely will not. I feel if you ask any shedding captain if they want to do it again, they might all need another shot.”
