Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has formally announced that ICE’s operation in the state will end within days, fairly than the timetable provided by the Trump administration. 

Speaking to reporters, the Minnesota governor said that he had spoken to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and to Tom Homan earlier in the week about ending the operation. Walz told reporters that he was in a “trust but verify mode.”

The Associated Press reported that Federal authorities say the sweeps targeted on the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro space has led to the arrest of more than 4,000 people “I’m very pleased to report that this surge operation and our work here with state and local officials to improve coordination and achieve mutual goals, as well as our efforts to address issues of a concern here on the ground have yielded the successful results we’ve came here for,” Homan added.

“The Twin Cities of Minnesota, in general, are and will continue to be much safer for the communities here because of what we have accomplished under President Trump’s leadership,” he continued. “I previously shared with you before I got here, before I even got here, I said I was going to meet with the governor, the AG and the Mayor Fry, Mayor Herr, and I’ve done all of that.”

Withdraw 

It was reported last week that Homan was withdrawing 700 ICE and CBP brokers after he praised state management and jail employees for their “unprecedented cooperation.” Around 2,000 federal brokers stay in the state, primarily in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, following the partial withdrawal, he added.
